Do You Need a Third Row, or Could a Ford Edge Fit Your Day?

Choose the Seating Need Before the Vehicle Size

If you are considering another seating row, start with the trips that need it: who would ride together, how often and which journeys your own vehicle needs to handle. That can clarify whether to keep a two-row Edge on the shortlist or explore a different layout.

Separate a Regular Need From an Occasional Possibility

Start with the people you usually carry, then add the trips that happen often enough to shape the purchase. A daily passenger need deserves different weight from a gathering where travel arrangements vary.

If those regular trips need a third row, keep that requirement clear and explore vehicles with that layout. If two rows cover them, an Edge can stay in the conversation without being treated as a compromise by default.

Look at the Layout You Would Use With People Aboard

For instance, the 2020 and 2024 Edge both have a front row and a second-row 60/40 split-fold-flat bench. The split lets you leave one portion available for a passenger while using the folded portion for a larger item. It changes how you use the second row, rather than adding another row.

Compare the cabin with the seats occupied the way you expect. Notice the space you want for the people coming along and the belongings that stay with them. A photograph of a completely folded cabin answers a different question.

Put Your Ordinary Stops Into the Decision

School activities, errands and family visits may involve several times getting in and out. Think about whether you like the vehicle during those repeated moments, not just when you imagine a full-house weekend.

Use our access guide for doors, seating position and the details to try in person. The right size still needs to be a vehicle you enjoy using on normal days.

Choose the Search That Solves Your Real Need

You do not have to settle every trim and option before choosing the seating layout. Once that requirement is clear, compare the cars that satisfy it and use our age/mileage/equipment guide to weigh the individual listings.

Our Internet Manager can help with a particular Edge’s interior photos and equipment. Keep the normal passenger arrangement at the center of the conversation so the next step answers the question you actually have.

Questions Worth Asking

Does moving from a 2020 Edge to a 2024 Edge add another seating row?

No. Those two examples both have front and second-row seating, with a 60/40 split-fold-flat rear bench. If an extra row is the reason for changing cars, that requirement calls for a different layout.

Can part of the rear bench stay available while I carry a larger item?

The split bench allows that arrangement. For instance, the 2020 and 2024 Edge both have a 60/40 split-fold-flat rear bench. Check the item’s space and the seat positions you need together.

Does EasyFold increase the seating or cargo area?

No. On the 2020 SEL, EasyFold is the rear-seat back release. It helps change the arrangement; it does not create extra physical space or another seating row.
